Sizing
When we meet with a customer for our in-home survey, one of the first
things we will do is a load calculation. Many homeowners think that
equipment size is based on square footage, but there are several other
factors to consider. A load calculation helps our sales team determine which size equipment
is required for your home. We consider many factors such as the type of
construction (brick verses frame), window size and direction, surface
areas of exterior walls, floors and ceilings as well as if your home is
insulated. All of these factors can have a large impact on the size
equipment required. Many times we can install a replacement system that is smaller than the
one we originally removed. This is a win for our customers because a
small unit will use less electricity and gas therefore lowering your
utility costs. Bigger Isn't Better
Some customers feel that increasing the size of their equipment will
improve system performance. In reality oversized equipment will cause
temperature swings, short cycling, increase energy costs and shorten
equipment life. Two-stage heating and cooling systems can adjust their capacity as the
situation demands necessary. This is why two-stage systems have become
so popular. Benefits of the two-stage system …
-
Lower energy costs
-
Improved system performance
-
Even temperature control
-
Improved dehumidification
-
Improved indoor air quality (IAQ)
